Case: Eline’s home

When past and present meet, unique stories are created. This is proven by the Sundae 3.0 project, an inspiring renovation of a 1938 art deco house originally designed by architect Jozef De Bruycker. The building’s stylistic features have been preserved and combined with contemporary elements, creating a perfect balance between old and new. In this project, the owner Eline Rousseau deliberately chose renovation and sustainability, paying particular attention to detail and aesthetics.

The choice of renovation: character and challenge

For Eline, the choice to renovate the existing house rather than build a new one was carefully considered. ‘Mainly because of the challenge,’ she says. ‘I really enjoy working with an existing atmosphere, character and layout. It takes creativity to breathe new life into something that already exists while taking into account the original elements of the building.’ Her love of architectural history and respect for heritage have played a major role in this respect. It is a process of seeking a balance between old and new, in which the authenticity of the building is preserved but adapted to the demands of contemporary life.

Alinel: a modern accent in a classical setting

One of the most striking additions to the Sundae 3.0 project is the choice of aluminium cladding for the gate. Eline knew she wanted a low-maintenance and durable material, and that’s how she chose Alinel. ‘Aluminium requires virtually no maintenance, which is very practical in the long term. We also deliberately chose Alinel profiles because they provide that little bit extra,’ she explains.

The Alinel profiled aluminium cladding gives depth and rhythm to the façade, a feature that fits in perfectly with the distinctive art deco style. Instead of a flat finish, the interplay of lines of the type A gives a subtle yet refined structure that takes the aesthetics of the house to the next level. The resulting play of light and shadow brings dynamism to the door and forms a striking contrast with the authentic façade.

Why black and textured coating?

The choice of colour was also carefully considered. Black turned out to be the ideal choice. ‘It matches the black windows and has a timeless and elegant look. It also makes it possible to highlight other elements even more, such as the magnificent façade,’ explains Eline. The textured coating finish reinforces this impression of luxury and has the added advantage of being less sensitive to finger marks and small imperfections. A well-considered choice that hits the mark both in practical and aesthetic terms.

The synergy between classic and modern

What makes Sundae 3.0 so unique is the combination of classic and modern elements. ‘In fact, we find this mix very fascinating,’ says Eline. ‘Alinel’s modern lines bring a clean and fresh touch, while the art deco elements of the façade add charm and character. These contrasts actually reinforce each other: the classic has a contemporary counterpart and, conversely, the modern also appears softer in this context.’
